PEACE AS NO SUBSTITUTE

Turkwel power station has been resourceful project both to the Turkana and Pokots communities living around the plant. The plant has provided employment opportunities directly and indirectly through contracting other companies’ for instance one-way cleaners firm, Brinks security guard just to mention few. This effort has really elevated the livelihoods of the host communities around the plant. However, the KENGEN plans has endeavored to improve the social and economical standards of the community through cooperate social responsibility (CSR) project which has contributed greatly to the communities and most of these projects had already kicked off. For instance, Transport facilities, medical, scholarship, social amenities and youth empowerment initiatives.
In the process of implementing these plans, the locals have been involved in war related to land conflict which has been propagated by the local politicians and have left many innocent Kenyans dead and others languishing in poverty line. Right now, many have been evicted from their original land in search for security, food, education, shelter and medical facilities and start a new brand ending in a refuge land. This has resulted to school dropouts, child abuses, unwanted pregnancies, diseases and malnutrition and even death to the locals.
Moreover, the KENGEN staffs have also fled in favor of their security which may contribute to redesigning mechanisms of their operations which may affect negatively the economical status of the communities around the plant.
My appeal is to my fellow innocent Kenyans who follow the idea of selfish politicians. Let us stand in unison to condemn their self-interest in making us instruments to gain political power. As we fight, they are resting in prestigious hostels, eat, drink, drive nice vehicles, plan to make new order of latest vehicles from abroad and make fun with their families.Moreso, they take their children to nice schools as we continue recruiting our children to unlawful bandits groups and our children die in the cold.
Our new constitution has put in place a mechanism to handle matters related to land by giving all mandate to the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) to scrutinize and provide Kenyans their regional territorial’s boundaries to enhance peace and harmony. If any doubt, let us file any cases related to land issues to the commission and the court of law. We should also build in mind that, all Kenyans have a right to reside to any part of Kenyan land legally acquired under their administration. But most importantly, let us stay in peace wherever we are and build Kenya together.
